Registration Required
1This is just a quick post to say that registration is now required to comment on any of the articles or tutorials posted. You may ask why and I fully understand why. There have been quite a lot of SPAM comments that I have been siphoning through in the admin panel and while they don’t show until I approve them, it takes up valuable time when looking for genuine comments.
As such, members must register by clicking the link on the right (sidebar) under lost password, or alternatively, click this link. A new password will be emailed to the address you provide in the form, so please be aware that email addresses must be valid and checked regularly. If you do not receive a password within 10minutes or…

Forum Hosting
4Many new forum owners choose to use a service which is free to host their forum until they reach a certain milestone. Although this sounds like a great idea, I would always recommend going with a paid host as your first option. Not only will the forums loading speed increase, but you have full functionality over your forum, unlike many free hosted services offer. With that said, I have listed some of the best free forum hosting services aswell as some paid web hosting companies.
Free Forum Hosting
FreeForums: http://www.freeforums.org
Another high contender using phpBB3. I’ve used this company personally, and would vote them the best among this list.
Forumer: http://www.forumer.com
Uses the phpBB3 forum software script and is in my opinion a great free forum host

Using an Admin Account
3Personally, I’ve never used more than one account on a forum. If I feel that I need to post an announcement or warning, I will do so by my own administrator account. However, I do know many forum owners who do use their own account as well as an admin account. Usually, the admin account is used to post warnings pointing out rules, making announcements or even used as an automatic feed or welcome bot. Although many people will argue that the admin account is used for administration purposes, why would any forum want to confuse new members as to which account they should contact first? If you use an admin account purely for administration purposes, then 90% of them time you may not need to use the account, apart…

Super Moderator Facts
1When you make a forum, you don’t usually need any help running it. It’s one of those things that you can do yourself and when it starts to grow, you take in pride of being the sole owner and staff member. But what about when it gets to the stage when you can’t handle the SPAM posts, trolling and such things, what do you do? It’s a hard decision to hire a moderator, especially when they are required to have enough permissions to delete topics/posts, ban members and so forth. This can lead to disaster, not at least if they decide to break your board.
Why Do I Want A Moderator?
Keeping the board clean and under control is the main factor here. If you let members trash or…

Welcome New Members
3I’ll start off with making a small article on welcoming new members to the forum. As always, if you login, you may comment on any of my articles and I’ll reply in a timely manner.
When I start a forum, I usually make it so all new members receive a welcome PM (private message) or a welcome email. In those welcome messages, I encourage new members to make a new thread in my Introductions forum so they can introduce themselves to the community and to make a start on posting. I always place my Introduction forum at the top of my forum so it’s easy to find and this is a good way to show new members you’d like to welcome them. Once they take the first step of…
